Basic instructions for preparing matcha 🍵
How to properly prepare your MATCHA drink?
I have prepared instructions for you on how to prepare three basic and most typical matcha drinks:
Don't be afraid to change the proportions to suit your taste, everyone tastes a little different and only by trying will you find "your" favorite preparation.
✨ Before you start preparing matcha, soak your chasen - a bamboo whisk - in water to activate it (bamboo fibers need to soften before use) and work properly.
(If you don't have a whisk, the best alternative is definitely a shaker or any sealable glass in which you whisk the matcha with ice and water. However, I must warn you that the taste of matcha prepared "cold" like this will be slightly different from the warm preparation. Check out my Instagram @robcha.matcha , where I have instructions and tips on how to prepare matcha.)
HOT MATCHA LATTE:
-
Sift 2–3 g of matcha into a tea bowl, or chawan . (If you are new to matcha, I recommend starting with 2 g.)
-
Pour 35–40 ml of water heated to 80 degrees into the bowl. (This is really important, if you pour hot water over the matcha, you will burn it.)
-
Take an activated (soaked) chasen – a bamboo whisk – and whisk the matcha in a zigzag pattern (M, W, Z with a wrist motion) until a thick foam forms on top.
-
Pour 100 ml of plant-based milk into a jug or glass and whisk it into a warm foam.
-
💡 Robcha tip: If you're just starting out with matcha, add 150–200 ml of milk. The taste will then be less pronounced. Over time, try different ratios and you'll definitely find "your" favorites.
-
Pour the matcha from the chawan into a mug and pour over the whipped milk.
-
Now just inhale, exhale and enjoy your heavenly matcha moment. ☁️
ICED MATCHA LATTE:
-
Ask for 4 g of matcha in a tea bowl or chawan .
-
Pour 40-50 ml of water heated to 80 degrees into the bowl. (This is really important, if you pour hot water over the matcha, you will burn it.)
-
Take an activated (soaked) chasen – a bamboo whisk – and whisk the matcha in a zigzag pattern (M, W, Z with a wrist movement) until a thick foam forms on top.
-
Put ice in a glass and pour 150 ml of plant-based milk to taste.
-
Pour the prepared matcha over the milk.
-
Now all you have to do is mix everything and enjoy a GODLY drink. 👼🏻
MATCHING:
My personal favorite.
-
Please 1.5 g of matcha in chawan .
-
Pour 40–50 ml of water heated to a maximum of 80 degrees into the bowl. (This is really important, if you pour hot water over the matcha, you will burn it.)
-
Take an activated (soaked) chasen – a bamboo whisk – and whisk the matcha in a zigzag pattern (M, W, Z with a wrist movement) until a thick foam forms on top.
-
Pour the matcha into a mug and add 200 ml of water (80 degrees).
-
✨ If it's too strong for you, you can add water to taste until the concentration suits you.
-
Now make yourself comfortable and let yourself drift away on a jasmine matcha cloud.
💡 Did you know that Robcha matcha is sweet and tastes like jasmine? It's thanks to the volcanic area in which our matcha is grown. That's why it's so unique and special.
Robcha Tips at the end:
-
If you don't have a kettle at home that monitors the temperature, nothing happens. Boil water on the stove, and once bubbles start to evaporate from the bottom, the water should be heated to the ideal temperature. /You can also use a kitchen thermometer/
-
If you're making an iced matcha latte, you can make it really simple and pour the matcha powder into a shaker or any sealable bottle, along with cold water and ice, and blend until you see that the matcha is lump-free, beautifully smooth. Then just pour it over a fresh batch of ice and milk in a glass and you're done.
-
Ideally, don't use animal milk. It won't affect the taste, but the protein called casein found in animal milk will prevent the antioxidants from matcha tea from being absorbed into your body, meaning you'll get almost none of the matcha benefits.
